Annual Meeting Recap

Dany Raad, MD • Education Committee Chair

Almost 100 colleagues from around the state gathered on Sept. 17 at the Renaissance Hotel Westerville Polaris for the OGS annual meeting. It was a great opportunity to connect with old friends and make new relationships. In fact, this was one on the highest attended meeting in the past 10 years and we hope this trend in attendance continues!

We had great feedback from the attendees. Everyone enjoyed the new format of dividing the meeting into 2 major sessions with 2 dedicated Q&A sessions by the speaker panels right after. We had great topics and excellent speakers. We then enjoyed a nice lunch, in which we had the legislative update and a short business meeting and then being finished by 2:00. Students, Residents and Fellows stayed for a short bonus session on the different types of practice choices: Independent, Academic and Employed which was also well attended.

During the break attendees were able to view 20 scientific abstract posters presented by our bright medical students and physicians in training. Again, this number represented to most-ever presented posters in OGS annual meeting history. Awards were presented to the top two posters. Congratulations!

Akash Khurana, MD PGY2 - University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center A Case of Blue Rubber Bleb Nevus Syndrome in an Elderly Patient

Shaman Dalal, MD PGY5 - MetroHealth Medical Center Outcomes of anticoagulation in patients with splanchnic vein thrombosis from acute pancreatitis – A nationwide retrospective analysis

Attendees earned CME and MOC credits for both the lectures and hands-on sessions. Overall the evaluations were very positive and 100% of all those who reported agreed they were highly satisfied/satisfied with all of the speakers and strongly agree/agree that they gained new information and developed new strategies to implement.

The venue and food was so highly rated that we will return again next year on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023 The Renaissance Columbus Westerville-Polaris Hotel for the 2023 annual meeting, so save the date!
