February Message from Our President

Dear Colleagues-

I I hope this letter finds you well. I wanted to provide a brief update and several reminders for upcoming OGS events. OGS remains on solid financial footing as we move into 2023. OGS membership has also remained strong, which I believe is a testament to the value of an OGS membership. Despite our successes, we are continually looking at ways enrich our society and membership. I would respectfully ask our current members to renew your membership for 2023, and for our members to encourage your colleagues and other GI associates in your own or other practices who are not currently members to join OGS. Our membership numbers are an important part of our ability to leverage and lobby on your behalf at the state level.

The link to renew your membership is https://www.ohiogisociety.org/membership.

If your practice is interested in enrolling multiple members at the same time, please call 614-527-6728 to enroll all your providers at one time. $100 remains a very reasonable membership cost which not only gains members free access to our annual meeting and CME event, but it also provides members access to state level advocacy. Membership remains free for our medical residents and gastroenterology fellows. If you are on faculty at an academic institution, please let your trainees know of this perk and share the membership link with them.

We plan to reconvene our OGS state legislative day in Columbus on Wednesday April 26th, 2023 after a 3-year hiatus due to the pandemic. OGS was founded in part to have a “seat at the table” and a way to continually monitor and engage in state health policy issues that affect our members and their respective practices and patients. This is a wonderful opportunity for OGS members to meet with our state representatives and senators, advocating on pertinent GI insurance and legislative matters. This is also a helpful way for our legislators to gain “real world” insight and perspective from practicing gastroenterologists on how these bills affect their constituents in a positive or negative way. OGS members are certainly encouraged to join us. Just email Joe Rosato (jrosato@osma.org) at OSMA if you are interested in joining us.

Our annual OGS meeting and CME event will take place on Saturday September 9th, 2023 at the Renaissance Columbus Westerville Hotel. Please mark your calendars and save the date! More information will follow in the coming months. Dr. Dany Raad will again be serving as chair of our education committee. Many thanks to Dany and his education committee members for their dedication to make our CME event a great success!

Please go to https://www.ohiogisociety.org/contact if you had any interest in serving on one of our OGS subcommittees. Additionally, if there were any GI specific outreach projects that you felt should be considered by OGS, or if there are any new or proposed regulatory or legislative issues that could adversely affect or threaten your patients’ access to care or your ability to practice, please bring these to our attention. We are here to advocate on behalf of our members.

I wish all of you continued health and happiness in the year ahead!

Respectfully,

Terry O’Toole, D.O

President
